Do you get tired of going to car shows and
being put in a class called "other British" because there aren't enough
Daimlers to justify a class? Do you get a little tired of hearing about the
performance tweaks the MG owners get out of their 4-bangers when you know
your SP250 will run circles around them? Have you had people at shows start
to tell you about the Triumph just like yours they once owned? Or Sunbeam?
Or ask why your R. Royce has that strange grill? Well, WELCOME TO THE
CLUB...the club for owners of Daimlers & Lanchesters. There may not be that
many of us out there, and we may be a little reticent to trumpet the virtues
of our cars, but put us together in the same room and see what happens.
In October 1978, DLOC member Mac
Hunter wrote to all the North American Daimler & Lanchester owners he knew,
suggesting a "club" be formed on these shores patterned after the English
DLOC. His suggestion was met with enthusiasm, and in 1979 the DLOC-NA was a
reality. Mac served -with the able assistance of daughter Mary- as club
President until his sudden passing in May, 1988.
The club has grown and
prospered, benefiting from the dedication of like-minded volunteers these
last 29 years. As would be expected, many of the original members have
departed our ranks through death, serious illness, or loss of connection
with Daimlers & Lanchesters. That's why we encourage you to
join the DLOC-NA and participate in our Newsletter, informal
get-togethers and Rally. Joining is easy, inexpensive ($35 USD),
and a wonderful way to make new friends and show off your classic British
Car.
To make sure you get a chance to show off
your mechanical love-bucket, we hold an annual get-together called
"RALLY", a gathering of enthusiasts with no purpose other than to enjoy
our classic British cars and socialize with like-minded owners. This year
we're meeting in Boiling Springs Pennsylvania along the scenic banks of
the Yellow Breeches for our 30th Rally on September 19-21. Click on the
Rally link for more information and an entry form.
